Roll-to-Roll Flexographic Printing Machine for Aluminium Lidding Foil
Modular™ 970 is a roll-to-roll flexographic printing machine designed for continuous printing on aluminium film, specifically configured for blister lidding foil applications in the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and dietary supplement industries.
The system combines a single-colour flexographic printing unit, material unwinding and rewinding systems, an ink recirculation circuit and, most importantly, a dedicated infrared (IR) drying system for water-based inks.
Infrared Drying for Water-Based Inks
The key distinguishing feature of Modular™ 970 is the integration of IR drying technology with liquid water-based (H₂O) inks.
Following flexographic printing, the aluminium film passes through the in-line infrared drying system. Dedicated adjustment controls allow the drying process to be configured according to specific production requirements.
Modular™ 970 therefore provides a purpose-designed solution that combines flexographic printing on aluminium, water-based inks and infrared drying within a continuous production process.
Flexographic Printing on Blister Lidding Foil
Modular™ 970 has been developed for printing on aluminium film and is designed for the production of materials used in blister packaging. The machine is particularly suited to the needs of manufacturers and converters operating in the following sectors:
Pharmaceuticals
Printing of information, identification codes and graphics on lidding foil intended for blister packaging.
Nutraceuticals
Customisation and identification of packaging materials used for nutraceutical products.
Dietary Supplements
Printing on aluminium foil used for packaging dietary supplements and products requiring detailed product information.
Roll-to-Roll Configuration
Modular™ 970 integrates all the main components required for processing roll-fed materials within a compact structure:
- Unwinding system
- Flexographic printing unit
- Ink recirculation system
- Film tension control
- Infrared drying system
- Web guide rollers
- Rewinding system
This configuration ensures continuous film transport and allows operators to adjust the main process parameters, including line speed, material tension and lateral print registration.
Miniflex® 528-H₂O Printing Unit
The Modular™ 970 is equipped with a Miniflex® 528-H₂O printing unit configured for single-colour flexographic printing. Ink is transferred to the substrate through the anilox roller and printing plate, while a dedicated circuit manages the supply and recirculation of water-based ink. The system accommodates 15- or 25-litre ink containers and is designed to maintain a consistent ink flow during operation.
Tension and Registration Control
Modular™ 970 features dedicated systems for controlling the roll-fed material, with adjustable tension during both unwinding and rewinding. The printing unit can also be adjusted laterally to correct and optimise print registration across the film. According to the operating manual, the lateral registration adjustment range is ±10 mm.
Performance for Industrial Printing
The Modular™ 970 is designed for continuous processing of aluminium film, with a maximum print width of 300 mm and a maximum rated speed of 300 m/min, depending on the application and operating conditions. The machine has a total installed power of 11 kW, of which 9 kW is dedicated to the drying system. The electrical supply is 3-phase + earth (3P + T), 440 V / 50 Hz.
