UV Flexo printing for Hydro-reactive waterproofing membranes
The enabling technology for functional marking on asymmetric geocomposites and advanced waterproofing systems.
Modular™ 946 by Giugni® is a flexographic printing unit engineered to address one of the most complex challenges in industrial converting: printing on hydro-reactive waterproofing membranes.
These technical materials feature an asymmetric structure: one side made of nonwoven fabric (designed to bond with concrete) and one smooth polyolefin side acting as the waterproof barrier. Modular™ 946 employs UV Flexo technology to print exclusively on the smooth surface, preserving the integrity of the product’s hydro-expansive core.
Thanks to the use of 100% solid UV inks and instant curing, Modular™ 946 eliminates water and solvents entirely, preventing any premature activation or chemical contamination of the active membrane. The result is an indelible print, highly resistant to jobsite abrasion and to the alkaline environment of concrete, providing critical installation guidance (overlap lines, cutting grids) with millimetric accuracy.
Why Modular™ 946 is the ultimate Waterproofing solution?
- Asymmetric substrate handling: The mechanical design protects the delicate nonwoven (fleece) side, printing only on the polyolefin side (soil side) supported by the impression cylinder.
- UV Flexo technology: Instant curing via UV lamps converts the ink into an inert plastic film within fractions of a second, with no risk of smearing or chemical migration into the reactive core.
- Functional precision: Computerized registration system for printing overlap lines (selvedge) and cutting grids perfectly aligned with adhesive edges, ensuring correct on-site installation.
- Extreme durability: The combination of Corona treatment and UV inks creates a permanent chemical bond resistant to abrasion, UV exposure, and the chemical attack of cement.
Key applications
- Hydro-reactive membranes: Printing of branding and instructions on composite systems (fleece + polymer).
- Geocomposites: Technical marking on materials for construction and civil engineering.
- Technical films: Printing on vapor barriers and protective membranes.
