Water-based Flexo printing on Medical Non-woven

The motorized printing unit for safe, high-speed customization of topsheets for hospital underpads and hygiene products.

Miniflex® 556 H2O is the flexographic printing unit by Giugni Srl developed to meet the stringent standards of the Medical and Hygiene sectors. This machine is specifically configured for printing with water-based inks on delicate materials such as nonwoven fabrics used as the top layer (topsheet) in hospital bed pads and incontinence products.

Working with water-based inks on high-speed lines presents unique challenges, particularly the risk of ink drying on the rollers. Miniflex® 556 addresses this issue through a doctor blade inking system with continuous recirculation, which keeps the ink fluid and at the correct viscosity, ensuring clean and safe printing for skin contact.

As a motorized unit, Miniflex® 556 manages material transport in synchronized operation with the converting line (Master/Slave), preventing tearing or stretching of the delicate nonwoven web. Compact and versatile, it integrates easily into underpad production machines, ensuring fast job changeovers and simplified maintenance.

Key strengths for the medical sector

  • Dermatological safety: Optimized for water-based inks, solvent-free and safe for skin contact (skin-friendly).
  • Delicate material handling: Independent motorization enables printing on lightweight nonwovens (spunbond) without stressing the material.
  • Consistent inking: The recirculation system prevents premature ink drying and foam formation.
  • Print quality: Ideal for printing logos, positioning instructions, or moisture indicators with high definition.
  • Flexible integration: Compact design for easy installation in existing underpad and diaper production lines.

Key applications

  • Hospital underpads: Printing on the patient-contact side (bed pads / underpads).
  • Adult incontinence: Marking of diapers and absorbent products.
  • Medical disposables: Customization of nonwoven drapes and surgical fields.
